Some people only remember the World Trade Center's Twin Towers being hit by hijacked planes before crashing to the ground. Whenever they remember the date 9/11, the first thing they think of are the former Twin Towers of the Manhattan skyline in New York.
I've seen the two towers two years before the attacks. I feel lucky that the sight of those magnificent buildings are imprinted in my memories. Four years after the towers fell, I got to visit what is now known as Ground Zero. Four years later, and the place was still haunted by that event. It was a big hole in the ground, but it was definitely cleaner than what I saw on TV the year it happened. In 2008, the people of New York have already started rebuilding what they call the "Freedom Tower"...or so I've heard. It was just a proposal at the time I heard about what they will build in GZ.
I just simply think that the Twin Towers have become a symbol for hope and strength for those opposed by people striking terror and threat to the greatest nation in the world. I think it is a very good thing, but people have also taken for granted of other events that took place on that same fateful day.
We also need to remember that one plane which crashed on the Pentagon, and more importantly, that other aircraft that almost crashed into the White House. It was because of the sacrifice that the passengers on-board that plane that the White House still stands unscathed until today.
Let us all remember that day with great care and respect. Today is just simply another day in another year, but it has a terrible and sad past.
